| Salvage Logging Planned for Texas Due to Drought |
| |
|
The U.S. Forest Service has unveiled its proposal for a salvage logging harvest of drought-stricken timber in the Sam Houston National Forest area of Texas. Typically, salvaged timber sales take place following natural disasters such as wildfire, hurricanes or insect infestation and are used to clear potentially hazardous timber from roads and power lines.
"We're working hard to correct the damage, focusing on critical health, safety and access concerns," explained Ernie Murray, a spokesman for the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas.
